The presentation provides practical insights into the technical requirements that the new EU Packaging Regulation (PPWR) places on companies and how they can systematically prepare for these. The focus is on the PPWR timeline, specific obligations such as EU declarations of conformity, technical documentation, recyclability, and the use of recycled materials, as well as their impact on existing packaging portfolios.
Using examples, TILISCO explains where typical stumbling blocks lie in data and evidence management and how workshops, inventories, and digitization facilitate implementation in companies. In addition, the specialized PPWR chatbot will be presented, which is based on a professionally verified database and supports companies in interpreting the regulation, identifying relevant articles\/annexes, and creating the necessary evidence.<\/p>

The new EU Packaging Regulation (PPWR) is changing the rules of the game for packaging in all industries\u2014including fish processing and logistics. The keynote speech will outline the EU’s objectives with the PPWR, the specific requirements that will apply to expanded polystyrene (EPS) packaging in the future, and how this could change the use of Styrofoam boxes in the fish cold chain. Between regulatory limbo and practical requirements\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>

The amended Fisheries Control Regulation requires the digital transmission of traceability information along the supply chain from January 2026. The change in the law now puts products from domestic fisheries and aquaculture on an equal footing with imports, which brings a number of new challenges for all companies in the industry. While the existing legal situation only requires a certain minimum standard from the industry, there are calls at various points in the value chain for a uniform and interoperable traceability system with global application. The presentation will outline the current status of the legal requirements and place them in the context of the opportunities and challenges of future traceability systems.<\/p>

Speakers:<\/strong> Dr. Stefan Meyer, Managing Director of the Federal Association of the German Fish Industry and Fish Wholesale Trade (Bundesverband der deutschen Fischindustrie und des Fischgro\u00dfhandels e.V.).<\/p>

Dr. Stefan Meyer has been managing director of the Federal Association of the German Fish Industry and Fish Wholesale Trade (Fischverband) since August 2023. The association represents over 120 member companies in the industry, covering a large part of the German fish processing and wholesale trade. The Fischverband is the central representative body for all matters concerning the industry. Born in Bonn, Meyer is a biologist (degree from the University of Oldenburg) and holds a doctorate in fisheries science (University of Hamburg\/DTU). He has worked in research, transfer, and administration and coordinated Germany’s first Blue Bioeconomy Cluster from 2019 to 2023.<\/em><\/p>
