BREMERHAVEN ON THE GROUPER

25. February 2024, 11:0012:00

Science & Innovation @Bremerhaven #seafood

Moderation: Alexander Wever, Founder and Owner, AWF Consulting

In Bremerhaven, four research institutes are working on the topic of fish and seafood along the value chain from production (aquaculture and fishing) through processing to the customer. Every year, the federal government, federal states and the EU provide large sums of money for the development of new technologies, processes and products. How one’s own company can benefit from these funds is a mystery to many. This is exactly where the experts from the four institutions that you can meet under the name “SCIENCE & INNOVATION @Bremerhaven #Seafood” at stand 5H20 are on their toes. Björn Suckow (AWI) gives a representative insight into the world of innovation funding, reports on the complementary skills at the location, the advantage of short distances and the diverse infrastructure and vividly describes how the whole thing can work and taste.

Björn Suckow, Alfred Wegener Institute for Polar and Marine Research

As a graduate environmental scientist, Björn Suckow worked for 9 years at ttz Bremerhaven, where he built up the competence field of aquaculture. In 2019, he then moved to the Sustainable Marine Bioeconomy research group at the Alfred Wegener Institute. One of its central tasks was and still is to initiate, apply for and carry out national and international applied research projects in the field of aquaculture and the fishing industry together with the industry in order to make the production and processing of fish and seafood more sustainable.
